Differences between the antifreeze guns
What is the difference between the frost protection and weep (permanent leak) versions?
In the weep version (also called permanent leak), there is a notch or cut-out in the sealing seat of the valve that allows a reduced amount of water to pass through even when the lever is not actuated. This happens both in high-pressure operation with the high-pressure pump switched on and in low-pressure operation with water pipe pressure.
The so-called frost protection guns work with "valve-in-valve technology", whereby the actuating valve switched via the gun lever contains the actual, automatically operating frost protection valve. The gun is opened and closed for cleaning as usual via the actuating valve. The integrated frost protection valve only operates in low-pressure mode (mains water pressure). It opens spring-actuated when the pressure falls below a value of approx. 5 bar. If this pressure increases, for example by switching on the high-pressure pump, the frost protection valve closes again automatically. This increases washing convenience, in particular by preventing water from escaping when the lance is removed from the quiver.
